Donate & buy pre-loved goods in Newbury

The Community Furniture Project is a furniture and household goods re-use project. Everyone can shop for low-cost, good quality pre-loved furniture and goods at the Project. We offer additional discounts for customers in receipt of benefits or state pensions (proof required). Plus, by promoting re-use of pre-loved things we protect the environment by reducing waste and keeping items out of landfill.

Proceeds from the Furniture Projects help to support the wide range of projects operated by NCRC including Growing 2Gether and Training & Community Support. Donate your good quality, unwanted furniture and household goods and you will help others to improve their living conditions and benefit the most vulnerable members of our local communities.

What can you donate?

We accept donations of furniture, electrical appliances (that are working), homeware and kitchenware, bicycles, books and bric-a-brac.

All upholstered furniture must either have a label attached which states it complies with the 1988 Fire Regulations or have a label with a post 1988 manufacturing date to comply with the law. All mattresses must have a label attached stating ‘Resistant’ with a symbol of a match or cigarette. Sorry – if your mattress is stained, we cannot accept it.

We accept working electrical goods, with a CE label, which we then safety test. We do not accept gas appliances, tumble driers, CDs/DVDs or child car seats.

We will collect large items free of charge if you live in West Berkshire or the Basingstoke & Deane District Council area. Complete the donations form by clicking the button below. Please upload photos of your item(s) with your form.

Bring your items to the shop

You can bring your items directly to our shop during opening hours (Monday – Saturday 9am-5pm). Please call 01635 43933 or email first to check that we can accept your items and avoid a wasted journey.

Drop off at Newtown Road Recycling Centre

You can drop off your items at our unit at Newtown Road Recycling Centre. Please note: if you are NOT a West Berkshire resident you will have to pay to use this facility. Book a slot on the West Berkshire Council’s website to visit the Recycling Centre by clicking the button below.

Shop with us

Join the re-use revolution and shop with us. You will find a wide range of good-quality donated furniture, electrical and household items including beds, sofas, chairs, tables, wardrobes and chests of drawers, lighting, kitchenware, pictures, mirrors, bric-a-brac, books and bikes.

All the furniture we sell meets current safety regulations.

We offer a low-cost furniture delivery service within West Berkshire and we aim to deliver to you as soon as possible – usually within 1 – 3 working days. Please note that delivery charges must be paid in advance.
